Eco-hotel

Built in 1894, the castle was used as a state medical institution for many decades and was bought by a new owner in 2007. As the new owners, we wanted to meet several of today’s needs: to save the deteriorating building and park, to continue the medical activities and to do so in an environmentally friendly way.

A particular challenge for us was that the castle is located in the middle of a nature conservation area, so the preservation of the natural environment, sustainable management and biodiversity conservation were also key requirements.

Almost two years of renovation work have paid off, and the Castle has been opened in its original beauty, but with a number of energy modernisations. All windows and doors have been replaced and the building has been insulated inside and outside. Renewable heat generation (biomass boilers, solar panels, solar carpet) provides hot water and heating, an irrigated green roof provides internal air conditioning in one third of the building and water recycling is complemented by rainwater and well water.

In 2011, our achievements were recognised with two awards: third best in the Sun Corona Championship for municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants and second best in the Biomass Championship.
